To cut.....or NOT to cut

Found this very interesting article on a GREAT spiritual page on Facebook (link down below) and I wanted to share it with our readers:

"Hair is an extension of the nervous system, it can be correctly seen as exteriorized nerves, a type of highly evolved \’feelers\’ or \’antennae\’ that transmit vast amounts of important information to the brainstem..., the limbic system, and the neocortex.

Not only does hair in people, including facial hair in men, provide an information highway reaching the brain, hair also emits energy, the electromagnetic energy emitted by the brain into the outer environment.

With the usual enticements, the U.S. Military, enlisted some Indian trackers. Once enlisted, an amazing thing happened. Whatever talents and skills they had possessed on the reservation seemed to mysteriously disappear, as recruit after recruit failed to perform as expected in the field.

Serious causalities and failures of performance led the government to contract expensive testing of these recruits, and this is what was found.

When questioned about their failure to perform as expected, the older recruits replied consistently that when they received their required military haircuts, they could no longer ’sense’ the enemy, they could no longer access a ’sixth sense’ , their ’intuition’ no longer was reliable, they couldn’t ’read’ subtle signs as well or access subtle extrasensory information.

Time after time the man with long hair kept making high scores. Time after time, the man with the short hair failed the tests in which he had previously scored high scores.

Here is a typical test:

The recruit is sleeping out in the woods. An armed ’enemy’ approaches the sleeping man. The long haired man is awakened out of his sleep by a strong sense of danger and gets away long before the enemy is close, long before any sounds from the approaching enemy are audible..."

I found this topic very interesting. I didn't even get a TRIM until I was about 14 or 15 years old because I valued my hair so much. And I didn't cut it again until I was in my twenties. This also reminds me of the movie Avatar and how the Na'vi's hair connected them to the environment.

While I do agree with the article above, I also feel there is a liberating and empowering feeling that comes with cutting/shaving your hair. I know many people who do it after a difficult period in their lives to signify the change and transformation into the new life they will start. Tonsure is still a common practice among monks and practitioners of the Hindu faith also.

One of the most powerful and emotional moments on TV for me was on one of my favorite shows, The Amazing Race:

As her husband pointed out, as more and more hair was cut off, Joyce seemed to blossom and become more brave. This moment, for women especially, I felt really captured both the emotional attachment we can have to our hair and the strength and courage we always have when it comes to getting things done.

The card in the beginning read: "It is a custom in India to express gratitude for good fortune". In this case, good fortune was definitely bestowed upon Uchenna and Joyce. They won the whole race.

So this leads me back to my original question: To cut, or not to cut?

What are your thoughts?

Venus Retrograde: Love is a Battlefield

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Too right you are Pat Benatar.

I should really stop acting surprised when I hear of another planet going retrograde. While Mercury is the more commonly known, Mars took me by surprise recently. And now Venus. Bittersweet Venus.

I have been having quite the pity party for myself the past week. I was dwelling on the fact that most of my friends are either engaged or married. Had a Britney moment and felt my lonliness was killing me. It's been driving me crazy! I'm not like this! I didn't know what the hell was wrong with me. I consider myself to be a strong, independant woman who celebrates her single status! And as a Pisces, I also enjoy my isolation sometimes. But I've been so love sick lately, it was beginning to frighten me.

C'mon Atreya! Get a hold of yourself! Man-up!....er umm....Witch-up!

As I was on Facebook the other day, a friend posted something about Venus Retrograde. And that's when it all started to make sense.

First, as always, a review:

"A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac. According to modern science, this traditional concept arises in the illusory planetary motion created by the orbital rotation of the earth with relation to other planets in our solar system. It's a bit like traveling on the road watching another car beside you: when the other car slows down, or you speed up, it looks as though the other car is moving backwards. Planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way due to this cosmic shadow-play."

Retrograde effects differ according to the sign in which it happens.

And that sign happens to be...

GEMINI!

I can't stand it here. I rather go there. You do too. Trust me.

This year Venus is going retrograde from May 15th - June 27th.

Lovely Venus rules, well...most obviously, LOVE! Most people tend to stop there. But Venus also rules beauty, art, music, relationships, pleasure and get this - money!

                                                                   Dolla, dolla bills ya'll

So what does this mean as far as Venus retrograde in Gemini goes??

"...it's supposed to mean that our love lives enter a fated period where we may relive past life experiences in order to sort out karmic issues. Old friends or lovers may reappear and there may be more difficulty in giving and receiving love and affection."

This retrograde deals with our romantic lives and our values. On the down side, it can be more of a distorted perspective and attitude.

Hence, my mopy pity party.

Well no moping for you! I'm giving you a heads up:

"This is a time when you will start to analyze your personal life and relationships that you have.
You may want to evaluate the reason why others are in your life and what value do they really have for you. You are aware of these issues, differences or unresolved problems with others. Wait till Venus goes direct if you are planning to let go of people from your life. This will give you more understanding of what is and has been going on and your role in the relationship. But you must also realize that in any relationship there will always be differences. The question is how much do you want to tolerate and what is actually depleting or negative to your well being as a whole. "

"In some cases, if a relationship has difficulties, things can work themselves out for the best. During this retrograde, we find people feeling more unloved, unappreciated and disappointed. Remember it is almost like the opposite of what the planet has to offer. People will feel that they need to get more out a relationship. This makes it a great time to mend relationships and apologize when needed in relationships."

Just as signing new contracts or purchasing new electronics during MERCURY retrograde is not recommended, it's probably not the best idea to get married or start new relationships during this period. Probably won't last that long. Though giving a past relationship a second try might work during this retrograde.

As far as the money aspect of Venus, any major financial decisions should probably take a backseat until Venus goes direct. All you shopaholics: Hey! PUT. THE. CREDIT. CARD. DOWN! No shopping binges!! The consequences of your purchases might bite you in the ass later. Especially the really pricey ones.

HOWEVER: If you are going to be shopping for things you want (rather than things you need), this is an ideal time to buy antiques! Secondhand purchases are even better during this time (yay flea markets!), especially if you have the upper hand on the seller and know the real worth of the items. And when in doubt, haggle haggle HAGGLE! That garage sale down the block is lookin real nice right about now huh....

Oh...and no messing with your face and body!! (aka cosmetic surgery) I wouldn't buy any make-up products that you haven't tried before either.

New and improved Joker products. Totally safe I'm sure...

Retrogrades in general are a time for reflection and second chances. And once I read about Venus Retrograde, I took the time to meditate and reflect on past relationships that were coming to the foreground lately. I enjoyed the good memories, but did not dwell on them. Dwelling on memories for too long, even happy ones, takes you away from the present.  I reflected on the rocky moments as well. And as I did, I thought about what I learned, how I have grown since then as a person and lover, and most of all, what I STILL need to learn from those relationships about MYSELF.

Retrogrades are like that. They put the issues you need to work on the most all up in ya face! Retrogrades throw you in the pool with no arm floaties and you have to suck it up and learn how to kick to the surface. And that is /was happening to me. I'm doggie paddling in the pool of longing. Don't misunderstand me, I am most definitely still a strong independant woman, who loves being single; but until I resolve these issues, I'm not going to evolve into a better version of myself, nor will I bring any new love in my life.

So come on Venus. I'm ready. Just you, me, and a box of tissues. Let's do this!

May 2012 Full Moon

Friday, May 4, 2012

| | | 0 comments
This month the Full Moon is in Scorpio and this isn't a regular Full Moon, it's a Super Full Moon.  {Que the dramatic music}

"The timing is almost perfect," it notes. At 11:34 (that's 8:34 p.m. Pacific), May's full moon will reach perigee  --  the closest point to Earth in its elliptical pattern -- and "only one minute later, the moon will line up with the Earth and the sun to become gloriously full."
For a bunch of scientists, that's pretty poetic talk.
The moon will appear 14% larger than other full moons of 2012.  "The swollen orb rising in the East at sunset will seem super indeed."  - Los Angeles Times

Full moon in Scorpio is a powerful and mysterious time.  This full moon is a time to look at all the things we've left languishing in the dark, hidden away corners of our lives.  An emotional time, this full moon urges us to dig deep into our rawest emotions, feelings and truths. The need for truth on all levels, especially emotionally, is strong during this full moon. Full moons are also the culmination of things we set into motion during the new moon and beyond.  What goals have you set for yourself? What projects did you start? What promises did you make to yourself or others?  The Scorpio full moon is a time look at these things, however unpleasant some of them may be, and own up to the achievements as well as the failures.   Scorpio is a fixed sign (as is Taurus which is the current position of the Sun) and thus a bit on the stubborn side.  This stubbornness may cause some to plant their feet and refuse to examine things about themselves that they may not want to think about or work on.  Focusing on everything from the minute to the monumental will make your head spin while the refusal to look at any of it at all will get you no where in a hurry.  Instead of getting caught up in an all-or-nothing situation do your best to find balance during this emotional full moon.
Use this time for refocusing, meditation, reflection and psychic work.  This is also a good time to open up to the people around you, share your feelings and create deeper bonds.  Full moon in Scorpio isn't going to leave us drained and emotionally spent.  Scorpio full moon is also healing and regenerative.  After the heavy emotions of this moon are dealt with you should feel much lighter moving forward.
Have fun basking in the superness of this months' Full Moon in Scorpio!  Hopefully the sky will clear and everyone will be able to see the suptacularness of this full moon. If you take any pictures and want to share them with us send them to 2witches1blog@gmail.com or post them on our facebook page, we'd love to see them.  Also, does hearing the term "Super Full Moon" conjure an image of the moon streaking through the sky wearing a cape or is that just me???

Bright Blessings,

Stone Of The Month ~ May 2012

Stone of the Month for May 2012 ~ Rose Quartz

The stone of the month for May is one of the prettiest stones out there in my opinion, Rose Quartz.  Rose Quartz is a very popular stone that is common in rock/mineral shops and can be easily obtained.  A member of the quartz family, Rose Quartz gets its pink color from titanium or manganese impurities.  Some pieces may also contain utile, which is a mineral that creates sparkling specks inside the stone.  Rose Quartz is pink and the color will range from a very pale pink to a deep pink.

Atreya's Rose Quartz Healing Wand

Rose Quartz is a stone of unconditional love, peace, emotional healing, self love and self acceptance.  This stone is calming and will aide you with inner healing.  Important to the heart chakra, Rose Quartz purifies the heart and aura opening you to love on all levels.  If your struggling with love of self and self confidence, carry a piece of Rose Quartz in your pocket.  Rose Quartz is a soothing stone that interacts gently with its surrounding environment creating a stabilizing and supportive element.  Holding a piece of Rose Quartz will help you with emotional stress and help you deal with extreme emotional situations like panic attacks, anxiety and fear.

Got some negative vibes? Use this stone to remove negative energy and replace it with calm, loving energy.  Rose Quartz will also increase your sense of empathy and help you accept change, especially when the change is sudden.

Rose Quartz will help open your heart and make you receptive to love on all levels, including yourself (self love).  Internalized pain, unexpressed emotions, and negative feelings that no longer serve you are soothed and released with Rose Quartz.  When experiencing grief, use this stone for comfort and to help deal with the loss.  If your an insomniac like I am, use Rose Quartz to help you get some sleep.  Place it under your pillow and its calming effects will help you ease into sleep and stay there.

This stone is also a considered a romantic stone by some.  Place it in your bedroom, home or carry it with you to attract a romantic partner.  If you're in a relationship, Rose Quartz will strengthen and maintain harmony, trust and encourage unconditional love.

Interesting Tidbit: Having a mid-life crisis or know someone that is? Get some Rose Quartz stat! It will enhance positive affirmations and remind you of your true, inner intentions. Also, because this stone promotes self worth, self love, etc., some people believe that Rose Quartz will help you reach weight loss goals.  One last thing: apparently water charged with Rose Quartz will help rejuvenate the skin and decrease wrinkles on the face.

Rose Quartz is first and foremost about you.  Self love, self healing, self trust, self acceptance, self worth, and self forgiveness are all things that Rose Quartz can help you achieve. Wear it over your heart to open yourself to love and remove internalized pain.  If you're prone to panic or anxiety attacks, keep a piece of Rose Quartz handy.  Your next pity party will end earlier and a mid-life crisis can be averted with this stone.  If you need some extra help with a weight loss plan, put a piece of Rose Quartz on your treadmill.  When all else fails, keep calm and carry a piece Rose Quartz.

Bright Blessings,
~Amethyst~

Herb Of The Month ~ May 2012

Herb of the Month for May 2012 - Cinnamon

I can't believe its already the lusty month of May!  So much happens during the month of May: Mother Nature is waking up all around us, animals are born, the weather begins to warm, Beltane and May Day are celebrated around the world (Northern Hemisphere) and some folks may begin to feel a little....frisky.  So I chose an herb with a little kick for this month, Cinnamon.  Cinnamon (Cinnamomum  zeylanicum) is a powerful and easily obtained multipurpose herb.  It's folk names are Sweet Wood and Ceylon. It's ruled by Apollo, Aphrodite, Venus and all the Gods/Goddesses of victory including Nike depending on your source.  Cinnamon is a masculine herb that it ruled by the Sun and the element of Fire.

Cinnamon Sticks and Powder

Cinnamon Powder

Cinnamon is an herb that almost everyone has encountered at one time or another.  It's used in baking, especially around Samhain and Yule, its often a main ingredient in potpourri mixtures, and it also has a valued spot in the magickal herb cabinet.  Cinnamon can be used for everything from healing and success, lust and protection and even increasing psychic powers.  Burn Cinnamon to stimulate psychic powers and increase spiritual vibration.  Use it to cleanse and purify a space or an object. Cinnamon is also used for protection, when burned as incense or added to protection mixtures it produces strong protective vibrations (which is most likely the reason it ends up in so many potpourri mixtures and decorations for the home.) Cinnamon will also give spells and herb/oil blends some extra umph especially when added to money and success spells. It has long been associated with victory and the Gods/Goddesses of victory. Use it for all spells regarding success/victory and also when you need results quickly.

Healing is also on the list of duties for Cinnamon.  Cinnamon can alleviate stomach problems including upset stomach, morning sickness, and motion sickness.  Add a small amount of Cinnamon to hot tea and it should stop the gurgles in your stomach.  Pregnant women should avoid ingesting large amounts of Cinnamon so chew Cinnamon gum instead of drinking it. Avoid Cinnamon altogether if you have a stomach ulcer, it will only make the ulcer angry...trust me.  Add Cinnamon to a hot healing drink mixture.  It helps activate the others herbs, warms you up and opens the chest.  Atreya makes me a drink her grandmother taught her whenever I get a cold.  One of the must have ingredients is 2 Cinnamon sticks.  Initially I wanted no parts of this drink but now I ask her to make it at the first sign of a sniffle (it works and it tastes amazing).

Cinnamon is also very lustful, potent and attracting.  How do you react or feel when you smell Cinnamon?? The scent of Cinnamon creates calm, fills you with a warm and cozy feeling and you instantly begin to seek out the source of the Cinnamon scent (c'mon, how many times have you walked through the mall and caught the scent of a Cinnabon stand?? Instantly all shopping plans fly out the window and you must have a Cinnabon.). Because of this, Cinnamon is a great addition to love and happiness spells/charms/sachets etc.  It also increases the male libido and attraction so consider using it in spells to attract a male partner but if a herd of men chase you through the streets in search of your Cinnabon don't blame this witch.

Will Cinnamon kill me??
Possibly.  Recently something called the Cinnamon Challenge went viral on the internet.  What's that you ask?  It's when some poor soul accepts a challenge from their "friends" to eat a spoonful or more of Cinnamon.  I'm begging you, for the love of the Gods, if someone tells you to do this SAY NO! Cinnamon is wonderful and tastes great when it's sprinkled on pastry, a dash is added to a pie recipe or a smidgen is added to a hot cup of tea BUT EATING A HUGE SPOONFUL COULD KILL YOU. Especially if you have asthma, chronic bronchitis or similar ailments.  Long story short it can cause suffocation, inflammation and scarring of the lungs and it's just plain stupid. So if someone throws down the Cinnamon Challenge at the next party you go to, say no and reevaluate your friendship.  Pregnant women should not ingest large amounts of Cinnamon. Cinnamon oil will irritate and burn the skin so make sure its diluted using a carrier oil.  Cinnamon, whether powdered or oil, is potent so don't get carried away.  A drop or two goes a long way, a pinch or two of the powder should suffice and one stick is usually plenty.  ***

Fun with Cinnamon
I found this on witchipedia.com and thought it sounded like a great idea. I haven't done it yet myself but I decided to share it anyway.  Next time you need some quick cash get/make Cinnamon clay.  (The recipe for Cinnamon clay can be found online and I'm also assuming that regular molding clay from the arts and crafts store with Cinnamon added to it will have the same effect.)  Mold the Cinnamon clay into a bowl shape.  Then write the amount of money you need on a piece of paper. Place the paper in the bowl with a few coins as offerings.  When you get the money you need bury the paper and coins outside (or in a potted plant for city dwellers) and save the Cinnamon bowl for future use.

Need to give herb/oil blend a boost? Want your spell to have an extra kick? Go to your nearest grocery store and buy yourself some Cinnamon.  Use it to calm an annoyed stomach and to get over a cold faster.  Success, victory, love, lust, protection, and money matters are among the long list of powers belonging to Cinnamon.  Avoid large amount of it if your with child, remember to dilute the oil, a little goes a long way and anyone suggesting the Cinnamon Challenge is no friend of yours. There's more information out there so make sure you do some research on your own.

Bright Blessings,
~Amethyst~

***I am not a doctor and I don't play one on TV. Do your research before you consume any herbs via potions etc.
